Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps has announced that Deputy Devan Polanski has been assigned to work alongside Illinois Department of Children and Family Services caseworkers on home visits.

DCFS is adding counties to a pilot program to try and provide a safer work environment for its caseworkers.

Polanski had been the sheriff’s departments canine officer, but Cripps says Canine Valor has retired due to his age.  Polanski has now adopted Valor which will become part of his family.

Cripps says he is going to take some time to evaluate replacing the canine.  He’s concerned about the state legislature moving to decriminalize drugs.  However, Cripps says the dogs are still valuable in searches and entering buildings.

Polanski is being replaced by recently hired deputy Tyler Donoho.
