Central City Board finalizes cellular tower easement

The Central City Village Board has approved an ordinance outlining a perpetual communications easement agreement with the company SBA regarding village-owned property on which SBA maintains a cellular tower.

Under terms of the agreement, SBA will pay the village a lump sum of $145,000 for the permanent easement, while the village will continue to own the property on which the tower sits.  Trustees had agreed in March to accept the $145,000 lump sum, after SBA rejected a higher offer from the village. Previously, the company had paid Central City $690 each month for the easement.

The village board agreed to move forward with signing the contract for the perpetual easement agreement. According to village officials, SBA representatives will still need to sign the contract as well.

In other action, the board approved a quote of $1,362.38 from Water Treat Technology for wastewater treatment algae management. Board members also accepted a $1,500 quote from Water Treat Technology for a wastewater lagoon filter media test, which will determine how much sand needs to be removed and replaced at the site.

Public Works Director Shane Swartzlander reported to the board that the new sign welcoming guests to West Side Park is now in place. A new sign has also been placed at Mount Evergreen Cemetery, which includes a map and a list of the cemetery’s rules.

Village officials also issued a reminder on Tuesday that the city-wide yard sale will take place on Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8, and the city-wide cleanup will take place the week of June 10 through 14.
