The National Trail Conference has cemented itself as one of, if not the best small school baseball conference in the state.  They proved that again yesterday at Super Sectionals.

Altamont was the first team to punch their ticket to the State Final Four yesterday in the 1a Super Sectionals at SIU-C.  Eli Miller took a bases loaded walk to walk off 7-6 on Hardin County.  It’s the first trip to the State Final Four in the program’s history.

After Altamont pulled off the win, St Anthony took the SIU field and shutout Mount Carmel 5-0.  Sophomore Aiden Lauritzen went the distance giving up 3 hits and needing just 89 pitches to do so.  St Anthony is looking for their first state title since winning last in 2012.

If both Altamont and St Anthony win the big trophy this weekend, the National Trail Conference will have won 4 state titles in the past 4 years with South Central winning in 2021 and North Clay following it up in 2022 with their 1a state title.

Altamont will play at Dozer Park in Peoria at 1pm on Friday against Gibson City following the 10am semifinal with Ottawa Marquette and Jacksonville Routt who beat Father McGivney in 8-innings 4-1 to win the Springfield Super.

St Anthony will open their Final Four at Dozer Park on Friday evening at 7pm against Wilmington following the first 2a semifinal at 4pm with Maroa Forsyth and Newman Central Catholic.
