The Salem Wildcats are scheduled to open up their 3a regional today at home when they host Mattoon. Salem fell 12-11 in a wild road game at Mattoon in the season’s final week. Game time today is at 4:30 and can be heard on WSIQ Radio. The winner advances to Saturday’s 11:00 a.m. final against Effingham who eliminated Charleston yesterday at Salem 4-0.
Mount Vernon will open up the Marion regional with a semifinal game against Centralia at 4:30. Freeburg will play the hosts at Waterloo. At Jerseyville, Mascoutah takes on Civic Memorial followed by Triad and Jerseyville.
Also in 3a regional openers yesterday, Marion shutout Herrin 12-0 at Marion and Mt Zion beat Springfield at Chatham 1-0.
In 4a regional openers yesterday, Belleville West beat Granite City 7-3 at Alton. Edwardsville won at home over Collinsville 2-0. Today Alton hosts Quincy and O’Fallon takes on Belleville East at Edwardsville.
