A 36-year-old Centralia woman has been charged in Marion County Court with aggravated cruelty to an animal.

Shamika Swan of North Sycamore is accused of intentionally committing an act that caused a dog to suffer serious injury by wrapping a metal cable around its neck in such a way and for such a length of time to allow the cable to become buried into the dog’s neck.   Centralia Police initially filed the information when discovering the issue on April 11th.

A misdemeanor count of cruel treatment of an animal was also filed based on the same allegations.

Swan is scheduled to appear for the first time on the charge in court on Friday.
