2024 Recipient Mary K. Jones and OWWI Chairman Sylvia Mahle.

A Centralia woman has been named the Illinois Federation of Business Woman’s Club Outstanding Working Woman of Illinois.

Mary Jones received the award at the 102 convention held in Effingham.

She was honored for her outstanding career as a licensed funeral director/embalmer and a certified crematory operator at the Macz Funeral Home as well as her volunteer work in the community.

“The hours that I put in for the Business and Professional Women’s Club doing their events and coordinating community outreach programs.  And the tourism commission with the City of Centralia.”

Jones says excepting the award was bittersweet.

“It was bittersweet because it was the last one and I wanted to make sure everybody reflected on the good of that program and what so many women have done for the State of Illinois.”

After its more than 102-year history, the statewide organization is folding due to a severe drop in membership.  However, Jones says the Centralia Business and Professional Woman’s Club will remain an organization with the same mission and programs as in the past.

Mary is a resident of Centralia and is married to Gregory Jones.  She is the daughter of Russ and Ginger Davis.
