Smith Wins 2 Conference Titles, Including Huge PR In Shot…Cats 2nd Overall

The Salem Wildcats track team finished 2nd at the Cahokia Conference Championships at Breese Central yesterday.  Freeburg won the team title.  2nd place came down to Salem and Roxana with the Cats holding a slim 1 point lead heading into the final race, but Salem held on.

Highlighting the day, Caleb Smith just keeps on winning.  The senior won 2 titles on Tuesday winning the discus and then lit a bomb in the shot put going 61-8 which puts him less than 6 inches under the unbreakable record of Mike Minton of 62-2.75.

Alex Spencer also had a big day as he ran a big leg in the winning 4×800 relay team, he was 2nd in the 800 and 3rd in the 300 hurdles.

Also yesterday, Holden Richardson won the pole vault with Clayton See placing, Miking Ettress was 2nd in the long jump, freshman Payton Gullion was 2nd in the high jump.  DJ Kaufman PR’d and placed in the shot and Trey Clark 3rd in the discus.  Riley Tate placed in the 300 hurdles, Sam Greene was part of 3 relays.
