Work is about to begin on the Green Street and Odin Road safety improvement project.

Guinzey Construction of Ashley, which was earlier awarded a $3.4-million bid to complete the work, says they are starting to mobilize equipment for the project Monday and urge caution.

The Green Street Road will remain open throughout the project, but will be reduced to one lane in places starting on May 20th.   Guinzey officials say the one lane section of roadway will be done in half-mile to mile long segments beginning at the Brewery Hill Road end of the project near Central City.  The project will then work northeast to the Scout Road.

The Odin Road will be completely closed for rebuilding of the bridge just north of Green Street Road beginning in June.

The safety improvement grant will allow for shoulders to be widened on the curves of Green Street Road, installation of additional guardrail and signage as well as rumble strips on the shoulder and centerline. There will also be some drainage improvements.

On the Odin Road, the bridge north of Green Street Road will be widened and the curve leading to the bridge corrected so if you are going too fast entering the bridge you can still get over safely.

Guinzey hopes to complete the work in September.

Marion County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick earlier said he hopes the work will reduce the number of accidents on the two roads.
