Centralia Police say report of Sunday shooting was a ‘swatting’ call

Centralia Police say a Sunday report of three people being shot and a man with a gun at a home in the 1000 block of South Elm turned out to be unfounded.

Police report the communications officer suspected a ‘swatting call’ when sending officers to respond.   They found there was no one at the burned out residence when they arrived.  After finding a way into the home, police found no one inside and no shooting victims.

Lieutenant Steve Whritenour says such fake calls are taken seriously and the incident has been turned over to the FBI for further investigation.   He commended the communications officer for identifying the call as most likely being a ‘swatting call’ before dispatching officers.
