While there was no actual fire, Salem Community High School staff and students proceeded with a full exit of the school when the fire alarm sounded Tuesday afternoon.

A smoke detector in the kitchen went off for an unknown cause after the kitchen staff had left for the day.  There were no students or staff in the area.

Salem Fire Protection District Firemen on arrival knew the general area of the alarm and found the sounding alarm in the ceiling quickly.  The alarm later reset without any further trouble.

Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering says the exit from the school went about as well as could be expected for an unplanned event.   Fire drills are normally held with advance notice.
