Jefferson Fire officials say a fire damaged the floor of a living room of a home under renovation east of Mt. Vernon Monday afternoon.
Firemen were called to the Gary Elliott home in the 13,000 block of North Sheppard Lane when smoke was showing through the roof. The owner of the home had already arrived and had opened the door. Firemen found a fire on the floor centered around a shop vac and a fire around a light in the ceiling above the vacuum. The fire is believed to have started in one of the two places and spread to the other. The fire is not suspicious in nature.
In addition to the hole in the floor and around the light figure, there was smoke and heat damage throughout the small single-story home.

There were no injuries.
The fire alarm came in at 2:44 Monday afternoon.
