A 57-year-old Centralia man was killed Friday morning in a UTV crash off the 29,000 block of Sycamore Road in extreme northeastern Washington County.

Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger pronounced Anthony Watkins of the address where the crash occurred dead on the scene.

Styninger says it appears Watkins was an unrestrained driver of the utility vehicle being used to attempt to corral a pony that had escaped its enclosure.  Watkins was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle flipped over, ejecting Watkins and then rolling over him.  Watkins was alone on the vehicle.

Toxicology samples were obtained by the coroner for routine testing.

Styninger says the cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma and manner of death is accidental.  The crash continues to be investigated by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.

Agencies on the scene were the Washington County Ambulance Service, Lifestar Ambulance from Centralia, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, and the Washington County Coroner’s office.
