A 36-year-old Wamac man faces five felony charges in connection with injuries to three young children he was babysitting last Friday.
Justin Clegg of South James is charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery for allegedly choking two of the children and aggravated battery for slapping the third child in the face causing a busted lip. In addition, he’s charged with two other counts of domestic battery that are felonies due to a past conviction in another Marion County case.
Wamac Police say the altercation occurred after one of the young people woke him up at the direction of their mother on Friday. Clegg was arrested on Monday following an investigation. Police report the 6 and 8 year old girls and 11 year old boy were all treated at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for their injuries.
Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth wanted to hold Clegg without bond saying all three kids are terrified to go around him. An emergency order of protection was entered that prohibits Clegg from having contact with the children.
A public defender was appointed to represent Clegg. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on May 8th.
