Janith K. Scott, 85, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:25 pm on April 17, 2024, at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon.
She was born February 17, 1939, in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late George and Irene (Shelton) Standerfer. Janith first married Donald Chambliss on June 29, 1956. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1990, after 34 years of marriage. She later married Richard Scott in November 2013. He passed away on March 16, 2023, after 10 years of marriage.
Janith is survived by her children, Howard Chambliss and wife, Cherri of Abilene, Texas and Donna Bauer of Mount Vernon, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Dee Walker of Saint Augustine, Florida; sister, Joyce Catron and husband, Gale of Colorado Springs, Colorado; stepchildren, Alan Smith and wife, Denise of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Debra Spada and husband, Tom of LaCenter, Washington, Karen Brookman and husband, Garry of Sikeston, Missouri, and Sara DeNeal and husband, Travis of Harrisburg, Illinois; eight grandchildren; eleven step-grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and parents, Janith was preceded in death by her children, George Chambliss, Dale Chambliss, and Paula Sexton; and daughter-in-law, Donna Jean Chambliss.
Janith was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She enjoyed quilting and embroidering. Janith loved working with her many flower gardens and had a special love for several different iris flowers. She was a member of Marlow General Baptist Church. Janith was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by those and loved and knew her.
A Visitation will be held Friday, May 10, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 10:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home with Reverend Russell Smith officiating. Interment will follow at East Hickory Hill Cemetery in Bluford, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Janith’s honor to the Marlow General Baptist Church.
