2024 05/01 – Lois Jean Green

Lois Jean Green, age 89 of Salem, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family and caregivers.

Lois was born on December 16, 1934, in Salem, Illinois, the daughter of Rolla Andrew and Irma Lucille (Williams) Wells.  She married Willard Green on October 4, 1952, at a small private ceremony in Salem and together they enjoyed 51 years united in marriage.

Survivors include her children, Ed Green and wife Julie of Kinmundy and Su Phelps and husband David of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; grandchildren, Robert Dailey, Seth Green, Laura Spiller, Sarah Bridges, and Eric Phelps; 10 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Peggy Ehara of Mesa, Arizona; brothers and sisters in law, Jim Green and wife Connie, Ken Green and wife Marcia, Dawn Green and Mary Ann Morris; Lois’s special friend, Charles L. Fisher of Odin; a family friend, Dana Diamond; and caregivers, Sharon Middleton and Lisa LeMarr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rolla and Irma; her husband, Willard; and a daughter, Linda Janell “Jan” Green.

Lois worked as an aide at Salem Elementary School for several years, prior to this she worked as a bank teller at Salem National Bank, as the secretary for the City Manager of Salem, and as a secretary for Dr. Aguilar and Dr. Rubio.

She served as president of the Salem Township Hospital Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Friends of the Bryan-Bennett Library. She was a member of TOPS weight loss group. Active in her faith at First Christian Church in Salem, she participated in the Ladies of FCC group and taught in the primary department from 1990 to 2004 where she met many nice children and their families.

Lois was very proud of her family and loved spending her time with them, especially her grandchildren.

Funeral services for Lois Green will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Pastor David Phelps and Pastor Phil Martin officiating.  Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery in Salem.  There will be a visitation on Wednesday, May 1st from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Memorial contributions can be made to Salem Township Hospital Auxiliary and will be received at the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories can be left at www.CrouseFH.com.
