The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that struck a man riding an ATV that had been thrown off in an initial crash seconds earlier.

Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse pronounced 34-year-old Daniel Montgomery of Bonnie dead at the scene of the crash at the intersection of North Markham Lane and East Short Street in downtown Bluford Sunday night.

The Sheriff’s Department reports indicate Montgomery was traveling westbound on Short Street when he ran into the side of a northbound SUV traveling on Markham Lane.  The impact ejected him onto the southbound lane of North Markham.  Seconds later, the third hit-and-run vehicle traveling south on Markham Lane struck Montgomery and continued south out of the area.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a dark sedan by witnesses.

The Sheriff’s Office detective division as well as the state police, responded to take over the death investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office is seeking any information from the public to help identify the car. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at (618)244-8004 or Jefferson County Crime Stoppers at (618)242-8477 (TIPS).

Bluford Fire, Jefferson County Fire Protection District, and Litton Ambulance were also called to the scene.  The crash occurred around 8:45 Sunday night.
