PHOENIX (AP) — Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a three-run homer, Ryne Nelson threw six solid innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2. Gurriel’s big blow came in the sixth, giving the D-backs a 4-1 lead. The left fielder lined a low fastball from Kyle Gibson into the left-field seats, barely clearing the wall. The 30-year-old is off to a hot start this season with a .317 batting average and four homers. Lars Nootbaar’s RBI single cut the lead to 4-2 in the eighth. Kevin Ginkel worked the ninth for his third save, retiring the side in order.

SEATTLE (AP) — Shota Imanaga allowed one unearned run over 5 1/3 innings, Michael Busch homered in his third straight game and the Chicago Cubs beat the Seattle Mariners 4-1. Seiya Suzuki and Miguel Amaya also hit solo home runs for the Cubs. But the focus was on Imanaga continuing the excellent start to his major league career and some timely defense from third baseman Christopher Morel in the sixth to keep the Cubs in front. Imanaga has gone 15 1/3 innings without giving up an earned run. He allowed five hits, struck out four and walked a pair. Seattle starter Emerson Hancock was solid, allowing two runs and four hits over six innings.
