Coach Tim Koch told WJBD Sports, “It was a great meet for both our boys and girls. Obviously we wanted to win but we had a high number of event wins. Unfortunately, when you break it down, they racked up more points from having more athletes place, despite us winning several events or placing 2nd in many events. Its a true testament to how hard our athletes compete, to come as close as we did and our athletes being willing to take on 3 or 4 events to score points despite not having as many competitors as the schools with a bigger student enrollment or larger number of athletes making up their team. Our athletes definitely represent out school and program well and they give all they have to give! The success is showing up in the high number of 1st and 2nd places and the PRs, fantastic times and distances are athletes are obtaining! The numbers will come, success tends to make others want to come compete and be a part of our team. 17 Boys is the most we have had since I began coaching here! I am darn proud of these kids and their families tonight! I was an honor to see our seniors honored at tonight’s meet prior to the 100 meter race as well! And I am very thankful to Vandalia and their track and field program for doing that for all of our seniors!”
