By WJBD Staff Apr 8, 2024 | 7:14 AM

The Salem Wildcats split their double header at home with TTown on Saturday.  In the first game, TTown won 8-1 as the Salem defense made 4 errors.  Noah Nix drove in the lone Salem run.  Aden Rose and Cooper Lobek combined on the mound.

Salem then earned an exciting 1-0 walk-off win in the 2nd game.  Keaton Gullion led off the 7th with a double.  Deytin Parker laid down a great sacrifice bunt moving Gullion to 3rd, and he would score on a perfect squeeze bunt by Braden Rector.  That made a winner of Colton Shelton who was dominant, allowing just 1 soft bloop single in the 7th to earn the complete game win.  Gavin Zimmermann had a pair of hits and Aden Bass also had a hit.  Salem is 8-8 on the year as they get set to travel to Wood River on Tuesday.

The Salem JV split their double header at home with Mattoon on Saturday.  In the opening game, Salem gave up 11 unearned runs in their 15-3 loss.  Eli Lograsso drove in 2 runs, Payton and Avery Gullion added a hit and runs.  Evan Barnes and Avery Gullion combined in the tough luck loss allowing just 4 earned runs.

In the 2nd game, Brody Collier went 3-3 with 2 home runs and a double leading Salem to a 7-1 win.  That was more than enough for winning pitcher Payton Gullion who worked 4 innings allowing 5 hits and struck out 9.  Collier got the 3 inning save.  Evan Barnes drove in a run.  The JV is 6-8 on the season as they get set to head to Wood River on Tuesday.

The Christ Our Rock Stallions improved to 6-5 on the season with a home double header sweep of CHBC on Saturday.  In the opening game, the Stallions capitalized on a walk-off error to score the winning run in the bottom of the 11th for a 4-3 win.  Parker Boehne tripled home a run, Damari Dabney added an RBI triple and Lendon Isaiah drove in a run.  Brayden Albert worked the first 5 innings before giving way to Jayden Bazile who earned the win going 6 innings allowing just 1 hit and struck out 9.

In the 2nd game, Christ Our Rock won 5-0.  Bazile had an RBI double, and Christian Nollman drove in a run.  Isaiah worked the complete game allowing just 5 hits and struck out 7.

The SC Cougars split their double header at home on Saturday.  They beat Casey Westfield 11-1 as the Cougars scored 7 runs in the decisive 4th inning.  Colton and Cal Smith combined to drive in 5 with 2 RBI from Zane Montes and Coen West.  Trevan Sidwell was the winning pitcher going 4 innings allowing just 2 hits with Chase Guerrettaz pitching the final inning.

The SC Cougars then gave up 5 runs to Breese Central in the third and fell 13-6 in spite out hitting Breese 15-9.  Maddux Robb drove in 3 for SC.
