Salem JV & Varsity Fall To Columbia — Prep baseball report
The Salem Wildcats are 4-6, and 0-1 in the Cahokia Conference after their home loss to Columbia yesterday 6-0. The game was scoreless until the 5th when the Eagles scored a pair, they would add an insurance run in the sixth and 3 more in the 7th. Salem’s Gavin Zimmermann deserved better. The senior headed to Greenville University, scattered hits and gave up 3 runs and struck out 9 in 6.2 innings of work. At the plate, Salem only had 2 hits on the day. Noah Nix and Josh Powless each singled.
The Salem JV fell to 4-5 with a road loss at Columbia 13-0 in five innings. The JV only had 3 hits on the day, Evan Barnes singled twice and Keytin Grawe added a hit. Carter Lowe took the loss going 3 innings, with Hudson Gambill working the fourth.
Salem jv/varsity both are off until Saturday when they both will host triangular games with Belleville West and Triad.
Also in Cahokia openers yesterday, Roxana upset Breese Central 4-2 and Freeburg all over Wood River 18-2.
Also last night in baseball scores, North Clay lost to Carmi 12-0, Centralia beat Carbondale 7-3, Patoka/Odin shutout Weber 9-0, Sparta nipped Carlyle 2-1.
SC Beats BSE, Host Ramsey Today
The SC Cougars return to action this afternoon at Lions Field when they host Ramsey. The Cougars are coming off a 6-1 win over Brownstown/St Elmo. The Cougars banged out 5 doubles in the game. Maddux Robb drove in 2 runs with RBI from Evan Hoover, Brody Markley and Max Magnus. The Cougars scored 3 times in the first and added on the rest of the game. Coen West was the winning pitcher going 6 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 run with 12 strikeouts. Trevan Sidwell worked the final inning.
