This is the final week on the job for Centralia Community Youth Center Executive Director Herb Williams.

Williams says the past ten years has been a good journey and very worthwhile, but he feels it is time for him to step-away.   In doing so, Williams is looking back at a number of accomplishments.

“We got the mural on the outside of the building.  It’s completed painted.  Inside we have a computer room, a new office floor, we put in new kitchen and ball court inside floor, the outside basketball court, food program so in the 10 years we’ve done a number of things.”

Williams says right now a $250,000 building expansion is underway which will allow for even more and improved services.   He’s most proud that parents now consider the Community Youth Center as a safe place to send their kids.

Board Chair Israel ‘Izzy’ Fontenez is thanking Williams for his service.

“Youth Center wouldn’t be where it is now if it wasn’t for Herb.  I honestly wish him the best in retirement and I hope he stays close.  We are going to need him for some mentoring opportunities and what not.  He has so much knowledge on him he has probably forgotten more than I know.  Hopefully he can stick around for the youth and we thank him for everything he did with the Youth Center.”

Fontenez says the center has no replacement ready to take the reins, but does have a good support staff that can keep the center running.
