The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees is congratulating its longtime chair Bill Hawley on receiving the top award for a community college trustee in the State of Illinois.
College President George Evans feels the Ray Harstein Trustee Achievement Award is a fitting tribute for Hawley.
“I challenge anyone to find anybody more deserving for the state award than Bill Hawley. Someone who has given 38 years of his life to a community college as a trustee, a non-paid position, sometimes very thankless. A lot of time and effort go into being a Trustee. A lot of tough decisions over the years. He has been there with us every step of the way and has always been a huge champion of the college.”
Hawley thanked the board for their support.
“I’m just so thankful that the board had faith enough in me to nominate me and give me this opportunity. And then the state board to decide I was deserving of the Ray Harstein Award because Ray was a super trustee for many many years. To get his award means you’ve done a pretty good job as a trustee.”
Hawley was nominated by fellow trustee Jim Beasley. Hawley will also be entered in the regional trustee of the year and if he wins that will be up for the national community college trustee of the year.
The board also acted on several personnel issues. The resignations of Assistant Professor of Communication/Theatre Kevin McCarty and Associate Professor of Nursing KC Streiker were approved. Juliana Weiner was hired as child care teacher provided she passes all mandated background checks.
