A home on the north side of Dix was destroyed by fire early Monday night.
Jefferson Fire officials say the Robert Lulich home at 915 West Lincoln was engulfed in flames and the roof was beginning to fall in when they arrived on the scene. The owner had gone to the store and returned to find his house on fire. Firemen say Lulich lost all of his possessions.
The State Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to investigate the cause of the blaze.
Jefferson Fire were assisted on the scene by Kell, Centralia Fire District, Woodlawn and Mt. Vernon firemen. Waltonville and Webber Township Firemen were called to standby at the Jefferson Fire station in the event of another fire.
The fire call came in at 5:13 Monday evening, with firemen on the scene for about two hours.
