By WJBD Staff Mar 22, 2024 | 7:31 AM

The Salem Wildcats made it 3 straight wins this week after losing their first 4 of the season as they beat Centralia 9-5 at SCHS Field.  Salem scored 4 runs in the opening inning without the benefit of a hit, in fact their first hit of the game didn’t come until the fifth when Noah Nix drove a deep home run well over the left field fence.  The Orphans made it a game scoring 4 runs in the sixth to cut the Salem lead to 6-5, but Salem added on with 3 more in the sixth to hold on to the win.

Nix finished with 2 RBI, Josh Powless continued his hot start to the year with a double, 2 runs and an RBI.  Keaton Gullion scored a pair of runs.  On the mound for Salem, Rhett Detering got the win going 5 innings allowing 3 hits and no earned runs with 10 strikeouts.  Colton Shelton worked a third of an inning, and Nix came in to get the save.

For the Orphans, John A Logan recruit Cruz Harlan smoked a triple in his first at bat finishing 2-3 adding a double as well.  Cam Tomlianovich added 2 RBI.  Mike Organ also drove in a run.

Salem will return to action against a very good St Anthony Bulldog squad at home on Monday.
