The Salem Wildcats made it 3 straight wins this week after losing their first 4 of the season as they beat Centralia 9-5 at SCHS Field. Salem scored 4 runs in the opening inning without the benefit of a hit, in fact their first hit of the game didn’t come until the fifth when Noah Nix drove a deep home run well over the left field fence. The Orphans made it a game scoring 4 runs in the sixth to cut the Salem lead to 6-5, but Salem added on with 3 more in the sixth to hold on to the win.
Nix finished with 2 RBI, Josh Powless continued his hot start to the year with a double, 2 runs and an RBI. Keaton Gullion scored a pair of runs. On the mound for Salem, Rhett Detering got the win going 5 innings allowing 3 hits and no earned runs with 10 strikeouts. Colton Shelton worked a third of an inning, and Nix came in to get the save.
For the Orphans, John A Logan recruit Cruz Harlan smoked a triple in his first at bat finishing 2-3 adding a double as well. Cam Tomlianovich added 2 RBI. Mike Organ also drove in a run.
Salem will return to action against a very good St Anthony Bulldog squad at home on Monday.

The Salem JV also earned a win over Centralia 10-3 jumping out to a 5-0 lead after five innings. The Orphans would cut it to 5-3 in the top of the sixth, but the JV Cats answered back with 5 more in the sixth.
Evan Barnes was great in the start going 5 innings allowing 5 hits and no runs with 8 strikeouts. Avery Gullion worked the final 2 innings for the save.
Gullion also had a big day at the plate going 3-4 with a double, run and RBI. Colton Rogers and Carter Lowe had 2 RBI each. Brody Collier and Barnes also drove in runs. Keytin Grawe had 2 hits including a double and 2 runs scored. Eli Lograsso had a hit and run. Aden Rostance drove in 3.
