The Salem Wildcats are on the road this afternoon at Charleston. Salem won their first game of the season after suffering 4 straight losses, as they beat Benton at SCHS Field Tuesday afternoon 11-4. Colton Shelton drove in six runs on three hits to lead Salem. Gavin Zimmermann struck out 10 on the day giving up 4 hits and 4 runs, none earned, over six innings. Josh Powless and Rhett Detering also drove in runs. Kam Wilkins added 3 hits and 2 runs, Jalen Inlow also had 2 hits and scored twice.
The Salem JV also heads to Charleston today after beating Benton at home 12-2 in six innings. Carter Lowe had a big day. At the plate he was 3-for-4 with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Brody Collier drove in 2 with an RBI also from Eli Lograsso, Evan Barnes and Max Vincent. Keytin Grawe had 3 hits and scored three times. Lowe was the complete game winner allowing no earned runs and 3 hits with 8 strikeouts.
Christ Our Rock fell to 2-2 on the season with an 8-2 loss to Althoff in Centralia. Drew Lueking drove in a run for the Stallions. Jayden Bazile, Omari King, Lendon Isaiah, Damari Dabney and Christian Nollman had hits.
The SC Cougars are at home today against Cisne. The Cougars are 2-0 after beating Odin/Patoka last night 8-1. Colby Bursott homered and drove in 2, Evan Hoover added a double and Maddox Robb also went deep. Brody Markley earned the win going 2.2 allowing 2 hits and noe earned runs. Trevan Sidwell and Zane Montes also worked on the mound in the win. Chapman had the only RBI for Odin.
Also in prep baseball yesterday, Breese Central beat Civic Memorial 4-2, Herrin 14-4 over Hamilton County, Highland beat Freeburg 11-1, Woodlawn lost to Johnston City 9-8, North Clay beat Brownstown/St Elmo 7-3, Roxana big over Staunton 15-1, St Anthony routed Robinson 14-2, TTown over Greenville 14-4, Triad beat Mount Vernon 7-3, Okawville lost to Trico 2-1 and Vandalia nipped Hillsboro 6-5.
