The Franklin Park Lady Bobcats are 23-0 after winning the Olney SIJHSAA Regional last night. Salem opened the night with a win over the hosts 25-12, 25-4 before beating Mt Carmel in the finals 25-6, 25-10. Salem advances to the Class L State Tournament a week from Saturday in Pinckneyville where they will play at 11 am against the winner of Region 1 which is Monday at Harrisburg with Massac and Harrisburg followed by Carterville and Marion.
Wesclin won their regional beating Centralia in the semifinal 25-7, 25-8 and then beating Carlyle in the finals 25-20, 25-18. Wesclin will play Wolfe Branch in their opener next Saturday.
In Class S regionals at North Wamac, TSJ Nashville won the title over Irvington/North Wamac 23-25, 25-19, 15-12. TSJ will play Summersville in the state opener in Herrin next Saturday
Field won their own regional beating Raccoon in the finals 25-16, 25-16. The night began with Rome beating Kell before falling to Field in the semifinals. Raccoon beat Bluford in 3 sets to get to the finals 25-18,m 17-25, 15-3. Field will play Shawnee next Saturday.
An upset at Jasper, as the hosts were 29-0 heading into the finals before being upset by Cisne 25-18, 22-25, 15-12. It was the 5th meeting this season between the two teams and the first win by Cisne who advances to the state tournament to play the Region 11 winner to be determined.
At Sandoval, New Horizon beat Selmaville in a back and forth battle 25-21, 20-25, 15-13 and will advance to the State Tournament in Herrin where they get St John’s Lutheran. . Selmaville made the finals with a 25-11, 25-16 win over Odin while the Lady Crusaders beat Central City in 3 sets to advance.
At Iuka, what started with 6 teams is now down to 2 after matches yesterday. The night began with St Peter Lutheran beating Patoka before falling to Trinity Stewardson in the semifinal. Iuka beat Altamont Lutheran in their semifinal 25-15, 25-19. The two teams will play tonight for the title and a trip to state. The match begins at 6pm.
In Class M Regionals at Breese All Saints, the hosts beat Breese District 12 in the finals 25-21, 17-25, 15-12. All Saints will play next Saturday at Nashville in the State Tournament against Fairfield who won their own regional yesterday with a 25-20, 30-28 win over Nashville.
