Ameren Illinois reports blowing gas has been turned off after a semi-tractor trailer leaving US 51 (880 Locust Road) hit a natural gas farm tap around 7:50 Friday morning.
As a result, US 51 was closed in both directions. The Washington County Emergency Management Agency evacuated residents near the area as a safety precaution.
Ameren reports work is still underway on the natural gas farm tap, but it is no longer a concern to the neighboring area.
Ameren Illinois crews arrived on the scene at 8:17 Friday morning and are working to make the area safe, resolve the blowing gas, and fix the farm tap.
