Marion and Washington Counties have dropped back to the low level of hospitalizations for COVID-19.  The latest weekly tracker from the CDC reports just three new hospitalizations in the two counties.   The rest of South Central Illinois also remains at the low level of hospitalizations.  In fact, only two counties in the state are currently at the medium level.  They are Johnson and Massac Counties in the very southern tip of Illinois.

Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow reports three congregate care facilities remain on outbreak status, but both of the Salem facilities have had no new cases in the past week and will be removed from outbreak status next week if there are no new cases.  The one Centralia facility on outbreak status has had 5 new residents and 10 new staff members test positive for COVID-19 in the past week, bringing the total number of the cases during the outbreak to eight residents and 12 staff.

The CDC tracker also shows three new COVID-19 hospitalizations in Jefferson and Wayne Counties, 23 in Clinton and St. Clair Counties, two in Fayette and Effingham Counties with no new hospitalizations in Clay or Jasper County.

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped 14 percent with 15,141 new hospitalizations across the country.
