Centralia High School’s production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” gets underway Thursday and runs through the weekend in the CHS cafetorium.

Director Jami Jacobs says the directing team felt that Roald Dahl’s classic story would make for a fun, family-friendly show, and she adds that the production has been coming together smoothly since rehearsals began after students returned from Christmas break.

“It’s been a really good rehearsal process, and I’ve got a really good, supportive director team. We are all well-rounded, and we all have our different strengths, and kind of take care of our own different things and work really well together.”

The cast held a dress rehearsal on Wednesday night that was open to school staff. CHS senior Will Ballantini, who plays Mike Teavee in the production, says he and the other cast members are eager to present the show to the community.

“(We’re) pretty excited, because when we had kids here earlier they were really excited; when we opened the first curtain, they saw it and they were all like ‘wow!’ It’s really cool, so I am excited for other people to see it and get involved with it.”

“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will be presented to the public on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by clicking on the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” event found on the “CHS Showcase on Stage” Facebook page. Tickets can also be purchased at the door, but Jacobs encourages people to get their tickets ahead of time, as a number have already been sold.
