After heavy rains in January brought South Central Illinois out of drought status, February was another dry month.
The Salem Water Treatment Plant recorded just 62-hundredths of an inch of rain in February. 46 hundredths of an inch came on one day, February 17th. There were four inches of snow during the month, all of which also came on the 17th.
Temperatures during the month ranged from a high of 78 on February 28th to a low of 11 degrees on February 17th and 18th. That compares to a high of 72 and a low of 12 last year.
As a result of the wet January, precipitation for the first two months of the year are higher than last year. Precipitation year to date is 16.68 inches compared to 6.34 inches last year.
