Harold “Butch” Buettner, a cherished member of the Centralia, Illinois community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the age of 86.

He was born on May 5, 1938 in Centralia to Clarence and Leona (Buehne) Buettner. He married Joyce Woker and they later divorced.

Harold made Centralia his lifelong home, forming deep connections with family and friends. For many years, he served as the office manager for Egyptian Concrete in Salem, Illinois, where his work ethic and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.

As a lifetime member of the Centralia Elks, Harold was known for his warmth, humility, and generosity. His simple, honest approach to life endeared him to all who knew him, and his contributions to the community will be fondly remembered.

Harold is survived by a loving family, including his sister, Shirley Brewer; brother-in-law Michael Plassman; sister-in-law Nancy Buettner; and nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Harold. His nieces, Krystal and husband Steve Huelsmann, Angela Coker and husband Michael, Michelle Schulte and husband Justin, and his nephews, Kevin Buettner and Greg Buettner, all reside in Centralia, and will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Clarence Buettner and Leona (Buehne) Buettner, his sister Beverly Plassman, brother Michael Buettner, brother-in-law Gene Brewer, and nephews Karl Plassman and Danny Brewer. The cherished memories of their time together provide comfort to those mourning his loss.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate Harold’s life and the legacy he leaves behind.
