Gloria B. Wheritt passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, in Carlyle, Illinois, at 81 years of age. Gloria was born on May 6, 1943, in Gardner, MA, to the late Guy and Dorothy “Dolly” (nee Hunnewell) Rhoades. She married her beloved husband, Robert J. Wheritt, on September 29, 1967, and he preceded her in death on May 18, 2003.
Mrs. Wheritt is survived by her daughter, Lisa Wheritt of Salem, IL; her son, John Wheritt, and fiancée Dana Jackson of Clarksville, TN; her grandchildren, Christopher Isaak of OH, Kyle Isaak and his wife, Melissa, of Herrin, IL, Jonathan Wheritt of Clarksville, Brenden Wheritt of Centralia, IL, Paige Wheritt of St. Francisville, IL, and Colin Clendenin of Salem. Her four great-grandchildren, Elias, Alaina, Callie, and Stella, also brought boundless joy to her life. Gloria is also survived by her sister, Ardeen Burgess of Gardner, MA, a niece Joanna Allen, and nephew Phillip Burgess. She was blessed with two special friends, Jo Minor and Sue Trowbridge, who will miss her dearly.
Early in life, Gloria stayed home to raise her family and later provided through her cleaning business. A sports enthusiast, Gloria was an avid fan of the St. Louis Blues, the St. Louis Cardinals, and she never missed a NASCAR race. She was also an animal lover who loved watching birds – particularly the loons – and she adored her beloved dalmatians, Charlie and Sammy. Gloria cherished her visits to Times Square to watch the ball drop on New Year’s Eve.

A Memorial service will be held at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. with Fr. Jose Jacob, officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carlyle. Friends and family are invited to visitation at Zieren Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.
