Gloria Mavis (nee Lallman) Van Dorn was born on June 18, 1923, in Beckemeyer, Illinois, daughter of Edward (Teddy) and Marie (Mizera) Lallman.  Mrs. Van Dorn died February 16, 2025 at Carlyle Healthcare and Senior Living.  She was 101 years of age.

When Gloria was in her teens, she and her sister Loretta sang together in the Princess Theater in Beckemeyer.  It was at this same theater that Gloria met her future husband, Emil Van Dorn.  Gloria and Emil were married on August 2, 1939, at St. Anthony’s church in Beckemeyer. He died on June 3, 1992.  Together, they raised two children, Marilyn and Eugene. Gloria loved her home and kept it meticulous.  She enjoyed giving gifts to her family, and she gave generously of her time.  Gloria helped people in the community by giving them rides and taking them meals.  Friends and family would describe Gloria as resilient, dependable, and having a soft heart for children, especially her grandchildren.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Kampwerth, of Carlyle, IL, and her son, Eugene (Jean) Van Dorn of Carlyle, IL; her grandchildren Marla (Clay) Nowicki, Lisa (Phil) Taffe, Travis Van Dorn (special friend Jennifer Wolff), and Keith (Tina) Van Dorn; her great-grandchildren Krystal Kampwerth, Andrew (Emily) Hanson, Nathan Hanson; Kyle Taffe; Camden Van Dorn, Nora, Madalyne, and Vivian Van Dorn; her great-great-grandchildren Hunter Hustedde and Cameron Karst; sister-in-law Leona Lallman; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson Kenny Kampwerth; brothers Gene Lallman, Edgar Patton (Joan and Marge), and Lavern Lallman; sister Loretta Wuebbels Heinzmann (Joe Wuebbels and Pete Heinzman); father-in-law and mother-in-law Thomas and Johanna (Tenholder-Van Doren) Van Dorn; and other Van Dorn in-laws; nephew Larry Wuebbels; and other nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held, with inurnment at the Beckemeyer IL Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Van Dorn are suggested to the Clinton County Senior Services Meals on Wheels or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Donations will be received through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton St., Carlyle, IL 62231.  Online condolences may be shared at www.ZierenFuneralHome.com.
