William Charles “Bill” Fletcher, 79, of Vandalia, formerly of Centralia, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Mon., Jan. 27, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
He was born Sun., Dec. 9, 1945, in Centralia, a son of Charles James and Lillias Mae (Pinkerton) Fletcher. He married Belinda Jean Scheriger in 1966 and they later divorced.
Bill served in the United States Army in Thailand. He worked in maintenance jobs at several area nursing homes. He enjoyed outdoor activities, playing cards, and spending time with family and his little dog, Max.
Survivors include his son, William J. “Billy” Fletcher of Centralia; sisters: Velma White, Pauline Matheny, and Josephine (Chuck) Walters, all of Decatur, and Lorene Patterson of Centralia; brother-in-law, Glen Simpson, of Irvington; sister-in-law, Cora Lee Fletcher of Salem; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Jean “Becky” Maschhoff; sisters: Maxine Simpson, Thelma (Carl) Futrell, Angeline “Angie” (Les) Moulder, and Darlene Parks; brothers: Roy (Etta) Fletcher and James Fletcher; and brothers-in-law, Frank Matheny and Ray White.
A visitation will be held from 1 until 2 p.m., Sat., Feb. 8, 2025, at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home located at 235 N. Sycamore St., Centralia, IL 62801. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill Fletcher’s honor may be made to Greenview Christian Church or to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
