Sonya L. Smith 64 of Albion, Il, passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2025, at Helia of Salem. She was born May 20th, 1960, to Bill and Barbara (Rushing) Dowdy in Joliet, Illinois.
She is survived by her 3 children: Jerrod (Jami) Smith, Kendra (Adam) Peddicord, and Sara (Phillip) Strickland; 7 grandchildren: Gavin, Madisyn, Bella, Gage, Kimberlyn, Korbin and Jeanessa; 2 sisters: Tonya (Tim) Prosise and Pat (Johnny) Compton; 3 brothers: Tom Dowdy, Mike (Lora) Dowdy, and Chris (Tammy) Dowdy; and Aunt to 8 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Bill and Barbara Dowdy; her beloved brother: Ted Dowdy; and several aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
Sonya was a very independent woman, who loved crafting, gardening, and animals. She always kept a neat and tidy house. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
Per Sonya’s wishes, cremation rites will be held with no public services. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations may be made to Davita Kidney Care of Centralia, IL or Claws and Paws Animal Rescue in Olney, II.
