The Salem City Council Monday night approved a bid from Built-More Buildings to construct a new storage building for the parks department. The 42 by 24 add on will be constructed next to the new Public Works building on Oak Park Drive at the edge of Tully Park. The bid was $31,700.

Interim City Manager Annette Sola says with a concrete floor and electrical wiring the total cost should be under $50,000.

“It will be a building that will house all of their equipment.  Right now we have like our bucket truck that sits outside so we will be able to pull that inside the building.  Plus additional storage.  That building will be about 20 feet deeper than the previous building was so it will give them extra storage.”

Sola hopes the building addition can be completed in the next few months. The new Public Works Building was constructed last year after two older buildings that were in poor repair were torn down. The new parks building was not budgeted, but Sola says there is money remaining in this year’s budget to pay for it.

The board also approved a contract with Gonzales Professional Services to complete the 2024 Monitoring Well Survey of the closed city landfill. The cost of the two year agreement $6,750.

Sola also received permission to surplus two old flatbed trucks because they have rusted out so badly they are no longer safe to use.
