A 65-year-old rural Centralia man has been arrested for threatening a public official.

Centralia Police say Joseph Musial of State Route 161 was arrested for making threats against Centralia Mayor Bryan Kuder.   The threats were through an e-mail to a councilman on Saturday who indicated that if Kuder didn’t respond to him he would make sure he was not at the Centralia City Council meeting.

Musial had earlier sent an e-mail to Kuder upset that the Mayor was not working 8 to 4 Monday through Friday at Centralia City Hall instead of at his fulltime job.   Police say Kuder responded that under the city manager form of government the Mayor was only part time but that he still goes to city hall every day.

Police say in an unrelated issue, Musial had also allegedly made a threat to an Ameren employee who tried to come on his property to take a meter reading.

Musial was arrested at his home Tuesday without incident and taken to the Marion County Jail to await a decision on formal charges.
