Clarence Meier, 89, of Centralia, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Carlyle Healthcare Center.

He was born on May 4, 1935, in Hoyleton, Illinois to Otto C. and Myrtle (Thouvenin) Meier.

He married Opal Lorene Moore on March 3, 1956, in Hoffman, Il and she preceded him death on January 9, 2022.

Survivors include a son, Dale R. Meier of Carlyle; three granddaughters, Jessica Meier Hanks and husband Chris of St. Charles, MO, Jan Meier of Centralia, Jamie Meier and Junior Thomas of Centralia; grandson, Jared Meier and wife Becky of Highland; great-grandchildren, Abbigail Jansen, Meadow Jansen and fiance’ Alec Cross, Amiyah Thomas, Ezrah Thomas, Delylah Thomas, Olivia Meier and Ronan Meier; brothers, Edward Meier and wife Katie of Hoffman, Earl Meier and wife Carolyn of Hillsboro and David Meier of Hoffman; brother-in-law Roger Moore and wife Deana of Florida; sister-in-law Linda Hill; his four-legged companion, Missy; many nieces and nephews and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Myrtle Meier; brother Charles Meier and wife Mary, Ralph Meier and wife Frankie and Leon Thouvenin and wife Mary; sister Ruth Meier and brother-in-law, Gene Hill.

He served in the United States Army from 1957-1963. He worked his entire life with the family business, Meier Auto Sales in Hoffman, Illinois. When he was younger he loved fixing up drag cars and race cars, especially Corvettes. He also loved playing baseball in his younger years. He took extreme pride of his beautiful yard, loved Nascar and old Westerns, especially John Wayne. Clarence never met a stranger and was always a ray of sunshine to those who knew him.

Funeral services for Clarence will be held Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Hillcrest Lakeside Chapel in Centralia. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11:00 am until the time of services at Hillcrest Lakeside Chapel. In lieu of flowers, Clarence’s family requests that memorial donations be made to Centralia Humane Society.
