Precipitation down over prior year in Salem

The amount of precipitation is down in 2023 from the prior year.

Records kept at the Salem Water Treatment Plant show total precipitation for 2023 at 43.28 inches including 4.3 inches of snow. That’s down from a total of 47.68 inches of precipitation and 11.3 inches of snow in 2022.

In Centralia, the water treatment plant recorded 39.34 inches of precipitation, including 3.22 in December.

Temperatures in Salem for the year ranged from a high of 101 in July to a low of 12 in February.

The month of December was milder with more precipitation, but less snow, than in 2022. There was a total of 3.82 inches of precipitation at the Salem Water Plant last month compared to 2.8 inches in 2022. Total snowfall for the month was 2.5 inches, with one inch snow falls on both December 27th and 28th. Temperatures in December ranged from a high of 64 on Christmas Day to a low of 17 recorded on both December 19th and 20th. That compares to a high temperature of just 60 degrees for a high and minus 7 as the low temperature for December 2022.
