Illinois State Police has released preliminary information on how a crash occurred between a Kawasaki mule truck and a pickup truck that sent an 83-year-old rural Dix man via Air Evac medical helicopter to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment.
Reports indicate the side-by-side driven by Jerry Davis was traveling eastbound on Baseline Road on the right fog line, partially in the roadway and partially in the gravel shoulder when an approaching eastbound pickup moved into the westbound lane to pass. As the pickup, driven by 56-year-old Marilyn Altom of Centralia, was starting to pass, Davis veered to the left and entered the westbound lane at an angle in front of the pickup causing the two to collide.
Kell Fire reports Davis was thrown off the side-by-side upon impact. He was transported by Litton Ambulance to a nearby field where the Air Evac Helicopter landed.
Davis was reportedly in front of his property when the crash occurred around 5:28 Friday night.
