Minor earthquake hits Jefferson County

A minor earthquake was recorded in Jefferson County late Sunday night.

The US Geological Survey placed the 3.1 magnitude quake five kilometers west north west of Waltonville on the New Madrid Fault System. It was recorded at 10:10 Sunday night.

The quake was strong enough to be felt in most of Jefferson County and the southern half of Marion County.
