With just a half inch of rain across most of Marion County in November and less than an inch in most areas so far in December, the Illinois Drought Monitor now lists nearly 99 percent of the county in severe drought.
This week’s drought monitor lists the very southwest corner of the county as the only area not in severe drought and it is listed in moderate drought. Other areas in severe drought include all of Clay County, all but the very northern part of Washington County, as well as most of Fayette County, and all but the southeast corner of Jefferson and southern Wayne Counties. Those areas along with all of Clinton County are listed as in moderate drought.
Most of the southern half of Illinois including West Central Illinois are currently in drought or listed as extremely dry. Most of Northern Illinois is not in a water shortage situation.
