A 79-year-old rural Iuka man has died after somehow falling into an eight-foot-deep hole where he was burning items outside his home late Monday afternoon.

Funeral services for Estel Deon Allison of Buchanan have been set for noon on December 15th at the Donoho Prairie Christian Church with visitation from ten until the time of the service at the church.

Marion County Sheriff’s officials say Allison had disappeared while overseeing the burning.  After he was gone a few hours, neighbors were asked to join the search for him.   A relative eventually saw his burned body down the burn hole.

The Iuka Fire Protection District was called to put out the fire.   They then assisted other emergency help in removing the body.

An investigation into how the incident occurred is continuing by the coroner’s office.

Allison worked for Egypt Concrete for 20 years and had worked his farm with his wife of 61 years by his side.  He also served as Romine Township Road Commissioner for 24 years.
