Three people died in a two-vehicle head-on crash near the intersection of East Dubois Road and North Pulsar Lane west of Waltonville High School just before midnight Saturday night.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department reports preliminary reports suggest that a 2017 Buick crossed the centerline striking a 2023 Chevrolet head-on. The driver of the Buick, a 20-year-old male from Scheller and a passenger in the car, a 20-year-old male from Herrin, became trapped in the vehicle and were pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the unit that was struck, a 37-year-old male from Collinsville, was also pronounced deceased on the scene. His passenger, a 32-year-old male from Crystal Lake, was transported from the scene by medical helicopter to a St. Louis hospital in an unknown condition.
The names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family members.
Waltonville Firemen called for mutual aid from Jefferson Fire and Woodlawn Fire to handle the fire that broke out in the car that crossed the centerline. Litton’s Ambulance assisted. An Illinois State Police accident reconstructionist is helping with the investigation.
