State Representative Blaine Wilhour will have primary opposition. Matthew Hall of Vandalia has filed to run against him in the March primary election. 12th District Republican Congressman Mike Bost is being challenged in the primary by Darren Bailey while three Democrats will face off. They are Joshua Qualls of Centralia, Preston Nelson of Lebanon and Brian Roberts of DeSoto. Meanwhile, State Rep Charlie Meier and State Senator Jason Plummer will run unopposed. In the 4th Judicial Circuit, Republicans Douglas Gruenke and Dennis Atteberry will face off.
In Marion County, there is a contested race for Coroner. Incumbent Troy Cannon will face Claude Howell in the Republican primary, while Anton Dubrick has filed as a Democrat. Republican State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth will be challenged in November by Democrat John Meador. Republican Supervisor of Assessment Mark Miller and Circuit Clerk Tiffany Schicker have no opposition.
There will be contested Republican Marion County Board races in District one, two and four, with no Democrats filing for any open seat. Charles ‘Chuck’ Rose will challenge Brock Waggoner and Tracy Murray in District One. Current District two board member Dr. Creighton Engel is being challenged by Marion County ESDA Coordinator Sherri Brooks Barter and Dr. Michael Douglas. In District Four, Republicans David Jourdan and Cody Rose will face off.
Only one candidate filed for the two open seats in District Three. He’s Tim McCance. The other seat could possibly be filled by a write-in candidate or a caucus by the Republican Party.
David Iossi is running unopposed for re-election in District Five.
