Julian W. McQuade, age 85 of Beaver Prairie, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese on Friday, November 29, 2024.
Mr. McQuade was born on the family farm in Beaver Prairie on September 16, 1939, a son of Jack W. and Hilda (Hilgemann) McQuade. He graduated from St. Mary’s/Mater Dei High School in Carlyle in 1957 and proudly served in the Army National Reserves. Julian spent most of his life as a carpenter working many years for Rehkemper Construction. He was a talented craftsman who made many items from wood which he often gave away to family and friends. In addition to working as a carpenter, Julian was always a farmer. He collected and restored many Allis Chalmers tractors and enjoyed going to farm and antique tractor shows. Julian was a member of the American Farm Heritage Museum in Greenville and enjoyed working with his buddies at the sawmill there, which he donated to the museum. Julian always kept his faith in God and was loved by his family, neighbors, and many friends.
Mr. McQuade is survived by his brother, Edward McQuade and wife Margie; a sister, JoAnn Varel and husband Bill; sisters-in-law, Susie McQuade and Karen McQuade; nieces and nephews, Kelly, Kristi, and Kyle McQuade; Brian, Lisa, Michael and Robert McQuade, Carol Garner, Nancy Stessman, Barbara Bathon, Theresa Goscinski, Kathy Blankenship, Kent Varel, Layne Varel, Laura Brady, Jill Varel, Anne Boedges, Stephanie, Jason (Machell), and William McQuade and friend Natalie; as well as grand nieces, grand nephews, good friends, and his beloved dog, Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Hilda McQuade; his brothers, Leonard McQuade Ray McQuade and his wife Linda, and Paul McQuade; a sister, Eileen McQuade; his nephew, David Varel; a niece, Regina McQuade; and a grand nephew, Andrew McQuade.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Felicitas Church in Beaver Prairie at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, with Fr. Tom Killeen, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Felicitas Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231 on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and on Wednesday morning from 8:00 – 9:30 AM.
