Roland Saxenmeyer, 79, of Hoyleton, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024, at his home.
He was born November 4, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Edward Saxenmeyer and Eugenia (Lively) Saxenmeyer. He married Mary Blake on February 15, 1969, and she preceded him in death on August 2, 1996. On August 23, 2001, Roland married Janice Sensmeyer and she survives.
In addition to his wife of 23 years, Janice Saxenmeyer of Hoyleton, Roland is also survived by his children: Mary “Bunny” Blake Meyer and husband Dan, Brookie Blake, Janice Blake, Dewey Stephens and wife Sherry, and Jennifer Wolenhaupt and husband Tim; three grandchildren: Nathan Riley, Sydney Stephens, and Jacob Stephens; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons: Edward W. Saxenmeyer and Raymond G. Blake, and a grandson: Christopher “Scotty” Barnett.
Roland served in the U.S. Air Force and he worked as an IT Technician for 40 plus years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan and had a passion for collecting hats. Roland enjoyed going camping with his family. He was very intrigued by researching his family’s genealogy and learning about history. Lastly, Roland enjoyed sitting on his porch bird-watching and smoking a cigar.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton, Illinois with Reverend Nathan Wollenberg officiating. A Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church.
