Geraldine M. “Jerry” Scott, 90, of Bluford, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 9:22 pm on October 25, 2024, at home on the family farm in rural Bluford. She was born May 19, 1934, in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Herschel and Myrla (Wood) Huff. Jerry married Fred Scott on April 13, 1953. They were blessed with 71 years of marriage.
In addition to her beloved husband, Jerry is survived by her daughters, Jane Donoho and husband, Craig of Tolono, Illinois, Marilyn Thompson and husband, Frank of Tamaroa, Illinois, and Marsha Brookman and husband, Kent of Opdyke, Illinois; grandchildren, Brad Donoho and wife, Alison of Godfrey, Illinois, Ryan Donoho and wife, Krista of Fisher, Indiana, Emily Lovelady and husband, Austin of Tamaroa, Illinois, Adam Brookman and wife, Lamanda of Bonnie, Illinois, and Zachary Brookman and wife, Kylie; great-grandchildren, Josiah Donoho, Adele Donoho, Breann Donoho, Kacey Donoho, Alivia Lovelady, Adrian Lovelady, Marshall Brookman, Luke Brookman, Fisher Brookman, Beau Brookman, and baby Brookman due in March 2025; sister, Joyce Mense and husband, John of Springfield, Illinois; sister-in-law, Vivian Scott of Belle Rive, Illinois; and brother-in-law, James Scott and wife, Georgia of Bluford, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jerry was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Janet Lee Scott; and siblings, Marvin Lee Huff, Marjorie Claus, Kathleen Smith, and Mary Johnson.
Jerry was a farmwife. While Fred was working away from home on the Illinois Central Railroad, Jerry made sure the livestock was tended to, garden produce was prepared for the cold winters, row crops were tilled and harvested, and she made many a bologna sandwich for the hay hands during the hot summer months. Quite often, after a long day in the fields, we would be greeted with a freezer of homemade ice cream. There was no better place for the “Scott girls” to be raised than on the farm working right alongside them both.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Brad Donoho officiating. Interment will follow at East Hickory Hill Cemetery in Bluford. Memorials may be made in Geraldine’s honor to the Webber Township Fire Protection District or SSM Hospice.
