The Salem Wildcats soccer season came to an end falling in the Effingham 2a Regional Semifinal to nationally ranked and top-seed Triad 9-0. The Knights advance to take on Highland in Friday’s finals after they knocked off the Hearts in the 2nd semifinal 5-2.
Also in regional semifinals last night at Bethalto, Althoff shutout Jerseyville 8-0 and Mascoutah over Civic Memorial 4-1. At Waterloo, the hosts’ shutout Mount Vernon 7-0 and Anna 3-1 winners over Centralia.
In 1a regional finals, Murphysboro knocked off Breese Central 2-0 behind a pair of goals from Cade Brooks to win their own regional title. At Father McGivney, Columbia and the hosts were knotted at 1 after the first overtime. They will resume the game today.
