Texas teen wins 2023 PKC Youth World Championship headquartered at Marion County Fairgrounds

The winner of the 2023 PKC Youth World Championship Coon Hunt is Carson Klam of Schulenburg, Texas. He beat out nearly 100 others who came to Salem from around the country to participate in the event. First place earns him $6,000 in cash and scholarship awards.

An auction of donated items and a cash collection at the Marion County Fairgrounds on Friday raised $10,750 for the scholarship fund.

The Superstakes also concluded over the weekend with the award ceremony at the fairgrounds. Taking 1st place in the senior division was James Bassage of Bloomfield, New York. He took home a prize of $15,000.

The winner of the Sophomore Superstakes was Justin Perryman of Perkins, Georgia. He took home a first-place prize of $8,500.

The Freshman Superstakes first-place winner was James Ashley of Upton, Kentucky. He won a prize of $1,000.

The Marion County Fairgrounds will come alive again in October, with the finals of the World Championship set for Friday and Saturday, October 13th and 14th. Regional qualifying events have been held at locations around the country.
